After a 7-day water fast I was jonesing for some trail food - namely Haocheng's tortilla wraps. It had also been awhile since we drove around on the trail roads in Rabun County. While we initially were planning to exclusively drive Sarah's Creek again, we decided to read the list of places that Woody (W2BBQ) told me about a couple of years ago.
First was Popcorn Road, a fun and challenging trail. We had to turn around early in the drive due to a downed tree blocking the road, but that was tolerable since we were really on the way to Charlie's Creek, another fun trail that we haven't driven on in nearly a year.
From there we drove on US76 and US441 to Black Rock State Park where we ate lunch.
Then we drove to Sarah's Creek, where we shot the photos below.
During this trip we listened to a bunch of good music. Here's Sia with Lentil from 2008. I like this song more than Haocheng does.
And our adopted theme song for trail riding - Cannonballers by Colony House from 2023:
This was the first time I brought a picnic table and a bench, and the picnic blanket. This was a luxurious combination. Now, if we only had a battery-powered fan to keep the mosquitoes and flies at bay, it would be perfect. By the time we arrived at this area, the temperature was pleasant.
Some hikers offered to take a photo of the three of us. This was a very welcome gesture. Seeing the hikers reminded me how much I miss backpacking in these woods. I should go back on foot real soon.
Oh BTW, we also listened to a bunch of Daryl Hall and John Oates - here's one from 1983:
Carol Ann is lifting her head and rolling over independently.
Some of the things I bring to the woods. I mentioned my call sign several times during the day on the repeater, and nobody ever responded.
Time to head back to Athens.
