Haocheng, Carol Ann, and I went to the Rabun County Fire Station #19 for the first Rabun Amateur Radio Club meeting since several versions of the club years prior.
The club is being organized by David Gottschalk, N4TS, and the first meeting had a healthy attendance of both new and veteran ham radio operators. Including the baby there were 14 people in attendance.
There is a ton of knowledge and dedication to both Amateur Radio and Search and Rescue among this group. We can't wait to watch all of the big plans this club has unfold.
I am hoping to install one of these on my Jeep Wrangler in the near future.
Ah, the honeymoon stage.
Then come the kids.
Black Rock is a great place to listen to the radio. I bring mine every time. I modified the VHF Motorola XTS5000 with a new red face plate. Since they didn't have the discreet colors I usually prefer, I went the opposite extreme. I don't even know if bright cherry red was an original color for this radio. Between that and the earlier make-out photo, I am reminded of that eighties song "Midnight Blue"
Talking on the 2m and 900MHz Black Rock repeaters is easy when you're only a few hundred feet away from them. I enjoyed QSOs with Heath, Clayton, and David from this location using P25 and FM.
A lovely meal of tortilla wraps. So good.
